On
June 7, 2000 Microsoft released a security patch for Outlook 98 and Outlook
2000.
The patch was designed to provide additional levels of protection against
malicious e-mail messages.
However, the update changes the way Outlook can be integrated with third
party products such as SalesCTRL
and ImPower.
Due
to several changes in Outlook’s behavior, we recommend you carefully consider
the following issues that will occur before determining whether or not to
install the security patch:
SalesCTRL | Outlook 98 | Outlook 2000 |
Company and Contact Screen |
When
sending an email from the Contact or Company screens, the prompt “A
program is trying to access email addresses you have stored in Outlook.
Do you want to allow this?” is returned and may display more than
once. Select Yes to send the email. Selecting
No or the X button will result in the error, “Member
recipients does not evaluate”. Select Continue to move on. On 6/13/2000 we released an update to resolve these issues. Note:
The Microsoft security patch disables the Send button in Outlook
98 when sending email through third party products.
Therefore you must use the CTRL + ENTER command to send an email
through SalesCTRL or ImPower. |
When
sending an email from the Contact or Company screens, the message “The
messaging interface has returned an unknown error.
If the problem persists, restart Outlook” is returned. This
message occurs because Outlook no longer allows HTML format files to be
attached to emails. |
Memo Fields | Note: The Microsoft security patch disables the Send button in Outlook 98 when sending email through third party products. Therefore you must use the CTRL + ENTER command to send an email through SalesCTRL or ImPower. |
When emailing a memo, the error “The
messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook” is returned.
This message occurs because Outlook no longer allows HTML format
files to be attached to emails. |
Activity Screen |
When
emailing an activity from the Activity screen, the prompt “A
program is trying to access email addresses you have stored in Outlook.
Do you want to allow this?” is returned and may display more than
once. Select Yes to send the email.
However, you must first modify your email settings in Outlook Tools
– Options – Mail Format to send email in Microsoft
Outlook Rich Text or Plain Text format rather than HTML
format. On 6/13/2000 we released an update to resolve this issue. Note: The Microsoft security patch disables the Send button in Outlook 98 when sending email through third party products. Therefore you must use the CTRL + ENTER command to send an email through SalesCTRL or ImPower. |
When
emailing an activity from the Activity screen, the error “The
messaging interface has returned an unknown error.

Task Manager | No known issues |
When
sending an email to more than one contact through Task Manager, the
message “c:\Program files\common\Files\system\mapi\1033\95\ Sales\ddb.dbf
does not exist” is
returned. Selecting Continue results in the message; “No
table is open in the current work area”
